The comparison of dyslipidemia and serum uric acid in patients with gout and asymptomatic hyperuricemia: A cross-sectional study
Lipids in Health and Disease Mar 12, 2020
Liang J, Jiang Y, Huang Y, et al. - This study seeks to discover different lipid levels of gout and asymptomatic hyperuricemia and the predictors of sUA (serum uric acid) levels. Researchers designed a cross-sectional study to assemble demographic, clinical variables, comorbidities and laboratory testing in individuals with gout and asymptomatic hyperuricemia. They carried out group comparison with Student’s t-test or Mann Whitney U test for continuous variables and chi-squared tests for categorical variables (Fisher’s exact test where appropriate) and to screen potential risk factors. The study population included 653 individuals with gout and 63 patients with asymptomatic hyperuricemia (> 420 μmol/L in male and > 360 μmol/L in female), including 553 (84.7%) males. Compared with asymptomatic hyperuricemia, dyslipidemia is more commonly seen in patients with gout. In gout, HDL-C is a protective predictor of sUA levels.
