The association of seminal leucocytes, interleukin-6 and interleukin-8 with sperm DNA fragmentation: A prospective study
Andrologia Nov 01, 2019
Aghazarian A, et al. - Researchers determined how sperm DNA integrity is influenced by seminal leucocytes, interleukin-6 and interleukin-8, and if there exists a link between standard semen parameters and sperm DNA fragmentation. Participants were 134 consecutive men in whom seminal leucocytes, interleukin-6, interleukin-8 and standard semen parameters, including total sperm number, sperm concentration, progressive motility, nonprogressive motility, immotility and normal morphology were determined. Significant inverse correlations with sperm DNA fragmentation were demonstrated by total sperm number, sperm concentration, progressive motility, nonprogressive motility and normal morphology. A direct correlation of immotile spermatozoa with sperm DNA fragmentation was also observed. Findings revealed no link of seminal leucocytes, interleukin-6 and interleukin-8 with sperm DNA fragmentation. A significant association of poor standard semen parameters with the high levels of sperm DNA fragmentation was also identified.
