European Journal of Nutrition May 09, 2018
Abdurahman AA, et al. - Researchers analyzed the link between household food insecurity and type 2 diabetes mellitus, by analyzing data from the cross-sectional studies identified from EMBASE, PubMed, ISI Web of Science and Scopus databases. Using a random effects model, study-specific odds ratios (ORs) were pooled. The meta-analysis included a total of 18 articles including a total of 55,353,915 adult participants. Findings showed a significant association of household food insecurity with the odds of T2DM. In subgroup analyses, an impact was noted of the country where the study conducted and household food insecurity assessment tool on the effect of household food insecurity on the odds of T2DM. Overall, the hypothesis of the household food insecurity effect on the odds of T2DM among adults was strengthened by the findings.
