The association between uric acid, renal hemodynamics and arterial stiffness over the natural history of type 1 diabetes
Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Feb 21, 2019
Lytvyn Y, et al. - Given that higher plasma uric acid (PUA) concentrations are associated with renal vasoconstriction, renin angiotensin aldosterone system (RAAS) activation, and vascular stiffness, researchers compared the changes in these associations over a range of type 1 diabetes (T1D) duration. According to findings, the connection between higher PUA with lower glomerular filtration rate (GFR), increased arterial stiffness, and RAAS activation has only been observed in older adults with longstanding T1D. The duration of T1D can alter the association of PUA, renal hemodynamic function, and activation of RAAS, resulting in renal vasoconstriction and ischemia.
