The association between specific neuropsychiatric disturbances in people with Alzheimer's disease and dementia with Lewy bodies and carer distress
International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry May 08, 2019
Terum TM, et al. - Researchers examined differences in carer distress related to specific neuropsychiatric disturbances in people with Alzheimer's disease (AD) vs dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). In this cross-sectional study, they included 159 participants diagnosed with AD (n=97) and DLB (n=62), and their primary carers (spouses and adult children). Among carers of people with AD and DLB, the most important neuropsychiatric symptom was apathy that contributed to carer distress. Findings may assist in recognizing the support needs of families dealing with dementia.
