The association between fat mass and the risk of breast cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Clinical Nutrition Sep 24, 2018
Namazi N, et al. – Researchers conducted this systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the relationship between fat mass (FM) and breast cancer risk. Between January 2000 and March 31, 2018, they conducted a systematic search of PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Web of Science and Embase databases without language limitations for cohort and case-control studies. The results obtained from the cohort studies indicate that higher FM is positively related to the risk for breast cancer. They observed that the relationship between FM and the risk of breast cancer in post-menopausal women was significant, while there was no significant connection in pre-menopausal women after stratification by menopause. The researchers acknowledged, however, that these outcomes should be interpreted with caution due to limited studies and high heterogeneity.
