The association between atopic dermatitis and hand eczema: A systematic review and meta-analysis
British Journal of Dermatology Apr 27, 2018
Ruff SMD, et al. - Authors evaluated the link between atopic dermatitis (AD) and hand eczema (HE) by reviewing published literature and scientific studies. They combined the results from 26 studies, which demonstrated a 3 to 4-fold increased risk of HE in patients with present or past AD when looking at 1-year- and lifetime prevalence of HE (meaning people who developed HE at any point over the course of a given year, or ever in their lives so far, even if they did not have it currently). A strongly increased odds of HE were seen in the patients with AD. Where possible, patients with AD ought to be guided by the clinicians away from occupations with high risk of HE.
