The absorbable subacromial spacer for irreparable posterosuperior cuff tears has inconsistent results
Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy Aug 15, 2018
Ibán MAR, et al. - In patients with irreparable posterosuperior rotator cuff tears, experts assessed the 2-year results of an absorbable subacromial spacer. Findings did not suggest satisfactory outcomes of the implantation of the subacromial biodegradable spacer at 2-year follow-up. Seemingly only 40% of patients in this small case series benefit from surgery. Revision to a reverse shoulder arthroplasty was required by 1 in 3. For the management of the majority of patients with irreparable ruptures of the rotator cuff, the described technique does not seem a reasonable alternative. They suggested a clear definition of the indications of this device.
