Text message interventions for physical activity: A systematic review and meta-analysis
American Journal of Preventive Medicine Nov 28, 2019
Smith DM, et al. - In order to assess the influence of text message interventions on physical activity, researchers performed a systematic review and meta-analysis, including studies identified from PubMed, PsycINFO, Scopus, Cochrane, and ClinicalTrials.gov databases explored from inception to December 2017. They included studies examining one-way text message interventions to promote physical activity. The systematic review included 59 articles (12 1-arm trials and 47 controlled trials; n = 8,742; mean age, 42.2 years; 56.2% female), and meta-analyses comprised 13 studies (n = 1,346). According to the findings, higher objectively measured postintervention physical activity resulted from text message interventions vs control groups.
