Ten-year outcomes of cervical disc replacement with the BRYAN cervical disc: Results from a prospective, randomized, controlled clinical trial
Spine Apr 25, 2019
Lavelle WF, et al. - In this prospective, randomized multicenter IDE trial between May 2002 and October 2004, authors evaluated the 10-year safety and effectiveness of BRYAN cervical disc arthroplasty (CDA) among 128 (CDA) and 104 anterior cervical decompression and fusion (ACDF) cases. They noted the overall success rate significantly higher for CDA group (81.3% vs 66.3%). They observed a lower rate of second surgeries at adjacent levels for CDA group (9.7% vs 15.8%). In the CDA group, NDI scores improved significantly (Δ38.3 vs Δ31.1) along with an improvement in Visual Analog Scale neck and arm suggesting a better long-term success for CDA vs fusion.
