Ten-year clinical outcomes of acute primary angle closure randomized to receive early phacoemulsification vs laser peripheral iridotomy
Journal of Glaucoma Apr 08, 2021
Chan PP, Tang FY, Leung DY, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to compare the 10-year clinical outcomes of eyes with acute primary angle closure (APAC) who were randomly assigned to either early phacoemulsification or laser peripheral iridotomy (LPI). Sixty-two APAC patients were invited for follow-up 10 years after undergoing either early phacoemulsification (phaco group) or laser peripheral iridotomy (LPI group) in a previous randomized controlled trial. As compared with APAC eyes that had initial LPI, early phacoemulsification needed less medication, had less peripheral anterior synechiae, had a lower incidence of intraocular pressure elevation, and had a lower incidence of blindness at 10 years.
