Tamoxifen use as a malignancy risk factor in postmenopausal women with endometrial polyps
Menopause Aug 06, 2019
Yela DA, et al. - Researchers retrospectively studied 675 women who underwent hysteroscopic polypectomy in 2010 to 2015 at the University of Campinas, in order to determine the risk of malignancy in relation to tamoxifen use. Among these women, 169 reported tamoxifen use and 506 reported no tamoxifen use. The tamoxifen use group had seven cases of endometrial cancer (4.14%) and no tamoxifen use group had 41 cases of endometrial cancer (8.1%). This suggests no correlation of tamoxifen use with a higher prevalence of endometrial cancer in women with endometrial polyps. Malignancy was observed to be correlated with abnormal uterine bleeding, age > 60 years, and nulliparous status.
