Systematic genetic analysis of early-onset gout: ABCG2 is the only associated locus
Rheumatology Feb 07, 2020
Zaidi F, Narang RK, Phipps-Green A, et al. - The present study was conducted to analyze whether serum urate-associated genetic variants are associated with early-onset gout. Researchers recruited a total of 1,648 individuals with gout in the Genetics of Gout in Aotearoa study with available genotyping. In this study, early-onset gout was described as the first presentation of gout < 40 years of age. They investigated the Allelic relationship of the SNPs with early-onset gout applying logistic regression in an unadjusted model and in a model adjusted for gender, body mass index, tophus presence, flare frequency, serum creatinine, and highest serum urate. The investigation was also made in two replication cohorts: Eurogout (n = 704) and Ardea (n = 755), and data were meta-analyzed. The data indicated that the ABCG2 rs2231142 T-allele is strongly correlated with early-onset gout in contrast to other serum urate-raising variants.
