Survival of patients with mild secondary mitral regurgitation with and without mild tricuspid regurgitation
Canadian Journal of Cardiology Jun 15, 2021
Mori M, Weininger G, Agarwal R, et al. - Via this retrospective cohort analysis, researchers assessed survival associated with mild secondary mitral regurgitation (SMR) in normal left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). Patients who had echocardiogram between 2013 and 2018 were included. Four groups were defined: no valvular abnormalities (group 1), trace SMR with trace or mild TR (group 2), mild SMR with trace or no TR (group 3), and mild SMR with mild TR (group 4). In these groups, survival was compared. Findings revealed worse survival in relation to mild SMR with mild TR, regardless of LVEF, in comparison to patients without any valvular abnormalities. Closer monitoring may be needed in cases with mild SMR even with normal LVEF.
