Survival of patients treated with extended-hours haemodialysis in Europe: An analysis of the ERA-EDTA Registry
Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation Mar 11, 2020
Jansz TT, Noordzij M, Kramer A, et al. - Although it has been suggested in earlier US studies that an improved patient survival may be achieved with extended-hours haemodialysis (EHD), ie, haemodialysis with ≥ 6-h sessions, but, there exists a difference in patient features and treatment practices between the USA and Europe, and therefore, researchers compared survival in relation to EHD three times weekly vs conventional haemodialysis in a sample of European patients. Using the European Renal Association–European Dialysis and Transplant Association Registry, data were obtained for 142,460 patients who were managed with haemodialysis between 2010 and 2017. Patients included were from eight countries. Findings revealed better survival in relation to EHD among European patients treated with haemodialysis three times weekly.
