Sulfonylurea and fracture risk in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A meta-analysis
Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Feb 05, 2020
Zhang Z, Cao Y, Tao Y, et al. - Via performing a meta-analysis, researchers sought to determine the fracture risk among patients with T2DM treated with sulfonylurea. Searching the PubMed and other databases, they included 11 studies comprising 255,644 individuals in this meta-analysis. Outcomes revealed an association of sulfonylurea use with a 14% increase in the risk of developing fractures in T2DM. Sulfonylurea induced fracture risk was similar to that caused by thiazolidinedione, higher than that attributable to metformin and lower than that induced by insulin.
