Suicide risk associated with dual diagnosis in general population
Addictive Disorders & Their Treatment May 22, 2019
Restrepo D, et al. - Patients with dual diagnosis (DD), substance-related disorder without other comorbid mental disorder, or any mental disorder without the presence of co-occurring substance-related disorders were compared regarding the risk of suicide, sociodemographic and clinical characteristics. In this cross-sectional study with secondary information from a population study, researchers included and screened adults of both sexes between 19 and 65 years of age for 23 mental disorders. The Compositum International Diagnosis Interview (CIDI 3.0), which uses DSM IV diagnostic criteria, was used as the data collection tool. DD was correlated to a higher risk of suicide vs noncomorbid mental disorders or substance-related disorder.
