Straight vs coiled peritoneal dialysis catheters: A randomized controlled trial

Chow KM, Wong SSM, Ng JKC, et al. - Via performing a randomized controlled study, researchers assessed complication rates associated with straight vs coiled peritoneal dialysis catheters. They randomly assigned 308 adult continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis patients to receive either straight or coiled catheters in this multicenter, open-label, randomized, controlled trial. Outcomes revealed a reduced rate of catheter dysfunction requiring surgical intervention in correlation with the use of straight Tenckhoff catheters vs coiled catheters.
