ST-segment resolution as a marker for severe myocardial fibrosis in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction
BMC Cardiovascular Disorders Sep 25, 2021
Dong Q, Wen X, Chang G, et al. - In ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients, relevant diagnostic information about the extent of myocardial scarification may be afforded by ST-segment resolution (STR) < 40.15% at 24 h post-percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
This study included 42 STEMI patients managed with PCI for single-branch coronary artery stenosis or occlusion.
STR yielded a sensitivity of 96% and specificity of 88% for predicting transmural scars, at an STR cut-off value of 40.15% (AUC=0.925).
A 170.90-fold higher likelihood of developing transmural scars was found in patients with STR < 40.15% vs those with STR ≥ 40.15%.
A significant association of STR percentage with myocardial scar thickness and size was evident.
