Sporting activity is reduced following medial reefing performed for patellar dislocation
BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders Jan 28, 2019
Ihle C, et al. - Researchers assessed 144 subjects to ascertain the sporting activity following the medial reefing of patellar dislocation between 2004 and 2013. They studied 3 groups with a minimum follow-up of 24 months ie, primary dislocation treated with medial reefing without a recurrent dislocation, primary dislocation initially treated with medial reefing but with a recurrent dislocation, and medial reefing after failed conservative treatment. They noted the Kujala score, 94.7 ± 9.3 for Group 1, 84.1 ± 16.6 for Group 2 and 93.4 ± 9.7 for Group 3. They recorded 91.9% candidates in Group 1 and 92.3% in Group 3 active in sports prior to their injuries and at the time of the follow-up. A reduction in sporting activity from 81.8 to 75.0% was observed in Group 2. They found a shift from high performance to recreational sports in all the groups.
