Soluble vascular endothelial growth factor receptor‐1 as a novel marker of arteriovenous fistula stenosis in hemodialysis patients

Hemodialysis International Apr 08, 2021

Eroglu E, Kocyigit I, Kahriman G, et al. - Among hemodialysis patients analyzed in this prospective cohort study, the link between soluble vascular endothelial growth factor receptor‐1 (sVEGFR‐1) and arteriovenous fistula (AVF) stenosis was investigated. A total of 70 patients with end‐stage renal disease were included, and final analysis was done with 45 patients. The stenosis group vs nonstenosis group was found to have higher median sVEGFR‐1 concentration. As per BMI categories, shortest stenosis‐free survival was experienced by obese patients (BMI > 30 kg/m 2 ). A link with AVF stenosis risk was demonstrated by sVEGFR‐1, serum creatinine, and parathyroid hormone levels, as identified in multivariate Cox analysis. In this study, elevated concentrations of sVEGFR‐1 and obesity were shown to be related to AVF stenosis in patients receiving hemodialysis.
