Dworkin ER, et al. - The physicians performed this study to explore whether social support predicted reductions in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms when substances (alcohol and/or drugs) were not used to cope. Access to social support from friends ought to be increased in patients with PTSD. Findings recommended evaluation of ways in which substance use coping could interfere with social support's benefits.
