Social functioning and subclinical psychosis in adolescence: A longitudinal general adolescent population study
Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica Jul 10, 2019
Heins M, et al. - Researchers examined a representative general population sample of adolescents (n=1909) for the longitudinal relationship between subclinical psychotic symptoms and their social functioning. They determined social functioning and subclinical psychotic symptoms of hallucinations and delusions via baseline measurement done in the second grade of secondary school and measurement done at follow-up at approximately 2 years later. Outcomes revealed that social problems and delusions are bidirectionally associated however there was no correlation between social problems and hallucinations. This may indicate a downward negative spiral where delusional thoughts and social problems reinforce each other.
