Smartphone use and primary headache: A cross-sectional hospital-based study

Neurology® Clinical Practice Jul 04, 2020

Uttarwar P, Vibha D, Prasad K, et al. - This study was intended to ascertain whether and how smartphone use is associated with the occurrence of new-onset headache and/or elevated severity of headaches in patients with primary headache. Individuals with primary headaches were classified into 2 groups: smartphone users (SUs) and non-smartphone users (NSUs) in a cross-sectional study between June 2017 and December 2018. They tried to find out the relationship between smartphone use and a new-onset headache or increase severity. They further ascertained any differences in the requirement of acute medication and prophylaxis. Researchers recruited a total of 400 individuals in the study, of which 194 were NSUs and 206 were SUs. The findings demonstrated that the use of smartphones was correlated with an increase in the need for acute medication and less relief with acute medication. Longitudinal research is needed to verify these findings.
