Journal of Arthroplasty Jan 04, 2019
Vakharia RM, et al. - Authors analyzed 529,240 subjects in this retrospective study from 2005 – 2014 to examine the complications in cases with and without sleep apnea (SA) undergoing either total knee (TKA) or total hip arthroplasty (THA). They observed an increased risk of developing postoperative complications in cases with SA following primary total joint arthroplasty (TJA). They also recommended the surgeons to educate people on such adverse effects and encourage the use of continuous positive airway pressure which had been shown to alleviate many postoperative complications.
