Six-month prospective study of quality of life in Guillain-Barre syndrome
Acta Neurologica Scandinavica Nov 20, 2019
Djordjevic G, Stojanov A, Bozovic I, et al. - During a six-month follow-up period, researchers examined the quality of life (QoL) in patients (n = 74; 54% males) with Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS), an autoimmune disease of the peripheral nerves and their roots. They used GBS disability scale (GDS) to measure functional disability (severe disability GDS > 2), and Individualized Neuromuscular Quality of Life questionnaire to evaluate QoL. According to multiple linear regression analysis, GDS at day 14 and fatigue score at day 14 were independent predictors of the worse GDS at month 6. The data presented in this work showed a gradual recovery of disability and QoL of patients during a six-month follow-up period of GBS patients. The multicentric, prospective study confirms the significance of recorded results for patients and their ability to capture certain important issues that are overlooked by classic ability measures like GDS.
