Single daily icodextrin exchange as initial and solitary therapy
Peritoneal Dialysis International Apr 03, 2018
Agar BU, et al. - Given that incremental peritoneal dialysis (PD) may impose fewer restrictions on patients' lifestyle, help attenuate lifetime peritoneal and systemic exposure to glucose and its degradation products, and minimize connections that could compromise the sterile fluid path, researchers assessed fluid and solute removal during single daily icodextrin treatments for patients with varying glomerular filtration rates (GFR), utilizing a 3-pore kinetic model. In patients with sufficient residual kidney function (RKF), augmented urea, ultrafiltration (UF), and Na removal could be attained via tailoring a single daily icodextrin exchange. A solitary icodextrin exchange may therefore be reasonable initial therapy for some incident end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients.
