Shortening of interpupillary distance after instillation of topical prostaglandin analogue eye drops
American Journal of Ophthalmology Mar 25, 2019
Sano I, et al. - In this retrospective, comparative case series, investigators researched over 152 participants to examine the variations in the interpupillary distance (IPD) after continual instillation of topical prostaglandin analogs (PGAs) in subjects with glaucoma as an objective indicator of prostaglandin-associated periorbitopathy (PAP). They noted no change in IPDs among the controls (0.05±0.96 mm) whereas it got shortened significantly post-treatment (-0.80±2.1 mm). A greater IPD change after bimatoprost instillation (-2.20±0.97 mm) was observed when compared to other PGAs (-0.65±2.09 mm). They recorded the percentages of subjects with 2-mm or greater decreases in IPD after bimatoprost, travoprost, latanoprost, or tafluprost, respectively, 85.7%, 20.0%, 18.2%, and 17.2% and with 3-mm or greater decreases in IPD 35.7%, 12.0%, 14.5%, and 12.1%, respectively. They concluded significantly greater effect with bimatoprost than with other PGAs.
