Short-term inpatient-based high-intensive pulmonary rehabilitation for lung cancer patients: Is it feasible and effective?
Journal of Thoracic Disease Dec 02, 2017
Zhou K, et al. - In this study, a preoperative in-hospital short-term pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) program was developed for surgical lung cancer patients and was tested with respect to its feasibility, potential cost benefit and effectiveness on outcome measures including reduction of postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) and postoperative length of stay. With no increased in-hospital cost, reductions in the length of stay and occurrence of PPCs were evident as a result of implementing this systematic and high-intensive PR combining inspiratory muscles training (IMT) and aerobic exercise. Overall, these data suggested that this rehabilitation pattern has the potential as a practicable strategy performed preoperatively in surgical lung cancer patients.
