Shame and eating disorders symptoms: A meta‐analysis
International Journal of Eating Disorders Jul 28, 2021
Nechita DM, et al. - Researchers herein used a meta-analytical approach to examine the correlation between shame and eating disorders symptoms. Findings were synthesized from 195 studies for this purpose. Overall, they identified a medium to large magnitude of the effect size of the association between shame and eating disorders symptoms. Body shame and shame around eating appear to be the types of shame most closely linked with eating disorders symptoms, indicating that directly targeting them in interventions might be highly beneficial. Findings reveal current gaps in the literature (eg, mostly correlational studies, low quality studies).
