Sexuality post gynaecological cancer treatment: A qualitative study with south African women
BMJ Open Sep 26, 2020
Pitcher S, Fakie N, Adams T, et al. - Researchers aimed at reporting on women’s experiences of their sexuality post gynaecological cancer treatment. In this qualitative study, they used an interpretive descriptive design. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. The final sample consisting of 34 women aged 29–70 shared their experience concerning how their sexual functioning post treatment was both nuanced and complex, how heteronormative gender expectations affected their intimate relationships, and how they experienced a re-embodiment of their sexual subjectivity post treatment. Participants felt that healthcare providers, as well as peer support groups, may provide more sexual functioning information to aid them in navigating the sexuality changes they experienced.
