Severe disruption and disorganization of dermal collagen fibrils in early striae gravidarum
British Journal of Dermatology Aug 21, 2017
Wang F, et al. – This study coveted an analysis of the molecular alterations that could promote atrophy of striae gravidarum (SG). In addition, this paper assessed the dermal type I collagen fibrils, which yielded support to the human skin. It was illustrated that early SG display marked the separation of collagen bundles and emergence of disorganized collagen fibrils that failed to form bundles. Such alterations possibly reflected the ineffective repair of collagen bundles disrupted by intense skin stretching. It was found that the persistent disruption of the collagenous extracellular matrix possibly promoted the formation and atrophy of SG.
