Serum uric acid is associated with incident metabolic syndrome independent of body shape index and body roundness index in healthy individuals
Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases Jul 28, 2021
Tu CM, Tseng GS, Chen CC, et al. - Researchers examined the link among the serum uric acid (SUA) level, body shape index (BSI), and body roundness index (BRI) on the incidence of metabolic syndrome (MetS). This analysis involved 6,221 healthy individuals. The overall incidence rate of MetS was 9.8%. A greater incidence of MetS was reported in the hyperuricemic group vs the normouricemic group. Following full adjustment for confounders, the SUA level was identified to be significantly related to incident MetS in addition to body mass index (BMI), BRI, and BSI. Overall, findings demonstrated that SUA exerted a dose-response impact on incident MetS independent of BMI, BRI and BSI in healthy people. SUA concentrations can be used in future studies for stratifying cardiometabolic risk in healthy persons.
