Serum osteoprotegerin in prevalent hemodialysis patients: Associations with mortality, atherosclerosis and cardiac function

Collado S, et al. - Whether or not serum osteoprotegerin (OPG) and/or fetuin-A predicted mortality and cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality in hemodialysis patients, was gauged in this study. In prevalent hemodialysis patients, OPG had an independent association with overall mortality, as well as clinical and subclinical atherosclerosis and cardiac function. However, this relationship was not seen for fetuin-A levels.
