Serum KL-6 levels reflect the severity of interstitial lung disease associated with connective tissue disease
Arthritis Research & Therapy Feb 20, 2019
Lee JS, et al. - In this retrospective study, the authors assessed 549 subjects to examine the significance of Krebs von den Lungen 6 (KL-6) in speculating the severity of connective tissue disease-associated interstitial lung disease (CTD-ILD) as assessed through computed tomography (CT) and pulmonary function test (PFT) parameters. They noticed elevated serum KL-6 levels among CTD-ILD cases in comparison to subjects with CTD alone. They observed an incline in serum KL-6 levels in CTD-ILD patients. A positive correlation of serum KL-6 levels with computed tomography (CT) grade and a negative association with forced vital capacity (FVC) and diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide (DLCO) were also noticed.
