Serum albumin level and abnormal QTc interval in patients with coronary artery disease and chronic kidney disease

Internal Medicine Journal Jul 01, 2018

Wu CC, et al. - Whether or not lower serum albumin is associated with prolonged QT interval was determined by recording 12-lead electrocardiography in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and chronic kidney disease (CKD). On analyzing 1,383 consecutive patients with CAD and CKD (841 with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and 542 with elective percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) patients) enrolled in a disease management program, researchers identified significantly lower concentrations of serum albumin in the patients with an abnormal corrected QT (QTc) interval. A lower concentration of serum albumin was noted to have an independent correlation with QTc prolongation in both the patients with ACS and elective PCI patients.
