Sense of community and its relationship with psychological well-being in assisted living
Aging and Mental Health Aug 06, 2019
Plys E, et al. - Researchers sought to test the sense of community (SOC) in a sample of 202 assisted living (AL) residents. They described SOC, sought for associated factors, and investigated the relationship between SOC and psychological well-being in this sample. Using the Brief Sense of Community Scale, total SOC (Cronbach’s α = 0.87; M = 25.89, SD = 6.08) and dimensions of SOC (ie need fulfillment, group membership, influence, and emotional connection) were determined. In the final step of a hierarchical multiple regression, a significant correlation of total SOC with psychological well-being was observed, however, when accounting for relevant covariates, its contribution was small (3%).
