Self-medication among the elderly in Iran: A content analysis study

Mortazavi SS, et al. - The practice of self-medication and its associated factors were explored among elderly people in Iran, based on the patients' experiences. Commonalities were revealed with many countries regarding over-the-counter medications and complementary and alternative medicine. It was also reported with drugs that required a prescription but easily obtainable from pharmacies. The elderly patients, their families, caregivers, and social circle, the physical environment where they live, and the health system from which they received services served as contributory factors.
