SEEG-guided radiofrequency coagulation (SEEG-guided RF-TC) vs anterior temporal lobectomy (ATL) in temporal lobe epilepsy
Journal of Neurology Jun 29, 2018
Moles A, et al. - Researchers compared the seizure-free rate at 1-year follow-up between subjects undergoing stereoelectroencephalography-guided radiofrequency thermocoagulation (SEEG-guided RF-TC) and subjects undergoing anterior temporal lobectomy (ATL) in temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) over a 15-year period. An aggregate of 21 subjects underwent SEEG-guided RF-TC and 49 ATL. They found that SEEG-guided RF-TC was not as effective as ATL in TLE. Findings suggested that subjects with dominant mesial involvement for whom hippocampectomy was not an option may benefit from the technique, since there was no memory impairment following SEEG-guided RF-TC.
