Sarcopenia and relationships between muscle mass, measured glomerular filtration rate and physical function in patients with chronic kidney disease stages 3–5
Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation Feb 07, 2018
Zhou Y, et al. - The links between muscle mass and measured glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and between muscle mass and strength and balance, were respectively inquired among patients with chronic kidney disease stages 3–5. Findings revealed significant association of loss of lean body mass, especially appendicular skeletal muscle, with GFR decline. Furthermore, balance and strength, recognized as two important markers of physical function were shown to be significantly associated with muscle mass. Notably, men were more prone to sarcopenia than women during kidney function decline.
