World Journal of Urology Apr 24, 2020
Sharma G, Sharma AP, Mavuduru RS, et al. - In this study safety and efficacy of the two energy modalities used for transurethral resection of bladder tumors (monopolar and bipolar) were compared. Researchers performed systematic literature search of various electronic databases to enroll all the randomized studies comparing two groups. The present review included eight randomized controlled trials recruiting a total of 1,147 patients. Results demonstrate that both bipolar and monopolar devices were found be safe in terms of obturator jerk and bladder perforation. Compared with monopolar, bipolar group was significantly better for hospital stay, catheter duration and fall in hemoglobin; nevertheless, the clinical relevance of most of these parameters is little.
