Role of peripheral pan-retinal photocoagulation in diabetic macular edema treated with intravitreal ziv-aflibercept
Clinical Ophthalmology Apr 26, 2019
Mansour AM, et al. - In this pilot prospective study, investigators researched the role of peripheral pan-retinal photocoagulation (PPRP) in diabetic macular edema (DME) managed with intravitreal ziv-aflibercept. They noticed a marked decline in the number of anti-VEGF injections when PPRP was given from a mean number of injections of 16.8 to a mean number of 4.5. They also calculated the mean initial central macular thickness (CMT), 462.0 mm in the injection only group vs 457.3 mm in the PPRP group. They also recorded that the monthly cost for the PPRP group was one-third of the monthly cost for the injection only group.
