Role of cold balanced salt solution (BSS) in the prophylaxis of cystoid macular edema after cataract surgery: A prospective randomized study
Clinical Ophthalmology Jun 22, 2021
Meduri A, Oliverio GW, Bergandi L, et al. - Researchers conducted this prospective, single-center study to assess the postoperative effect on the central retinal macular thickness of a cooled irrigating eye solution used during cataract surgery. Between April 2019 and May 2019, 50 patients (100 eyes) with a diagnosis of senile cataract, who underwent phacoemulsification at the Ophthalmology Department of the University Hospital “G. Martino” Messina, Italy, were randomly recruited in the research. Using a cooled irrigating eye solution during phacoemulsification may help to prevent the development of postoperative macular thickening.
