Risk of recurrent stillbirth: A cohort study
BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Apr 14, 2021
Wood SL, et al. - Via performing a retrospective cohort study, researchers aimed at determining the recurrence risk of stillbirth. They assessed 744,897 births from 308,478 women; 3,698 of these women had a stillbirth, 97.7% of whom had experienced only one. Overall findings suggest a low risk of recurrent antepartum stillbirth. Risk in instances where the antepartum stillbirth was not growth restricted rose to an extent that was not clinically important. As there was very low risk in any given gestational week, they suggest no effectiveness of fetal surveillance which may result in unnecessary interventions. A very high recurrence risk was evident with intrapartum stillbirth but these may not be preventable.
