Annals of Rheumatic Diseases Aug 04, 2019
Yokose C, McCormick N, Chen C, et al. - Via an online case-crossover study of patients with gout, researchers investigated the correlation between vaccination and gout flares and tested the likelihood that other vaccines may also be related to gout flares. During follow-up, there were 517 individuals with gout who encountered gout flares. There were 28 and 21 vaccinations during 990 hazard periods and during 1,407 control periods, respectively. Vaccination was correlated with twice greater odds of a gout flare. In conclusion, vaccines other than recombinant zoster vaccine was correlated with increased odds of gout flares, possibly through a shared pathogenetic mechanism like NLRP3 inflammasome. Nonetheless, the absolute magnitude of increased odds of gout flares with vaccinations prevailed to be small and must be understood within in regards to the powerful advantages of vaccinations.
