Risk of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo in patients with depressive disorders: A nationwide population-based cohort study
BMJ Open Apr 03, 2019
Hsu CL, et al. - In this longitudinal nationwide cohort study, researchers examined the risk of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) in patients with depressive disorders. Between 2000 and 2009, they recruited 10,297 patients diagnosed with depressive disorders and compared them to 41,188 selected control patients who had never been diagnosed with the risk of developing BPPV. The BPPV incidence rate ratio between the two cohorts was 1.79, calculated from BPPV events per 1000 person-years observation time. Investigators found that patients with depressive disorders, particularly those with hyperthyroidism and systemic lupus erythematosus, might have an increased risk of developing BPPV.
