Risk factors in metabolic syndrome predict the progression of diabetic nephropathy in patients with type 2 diabetes

Diabetes Research and Clinical Practice Jul 18, 2019

Chuang SM, et al. - In patients with type 2 diabetes, researchers assessed the connection between metabolic syndrome and the progression of diabetic kidney disease (DKD) using Cox regression analysis. The study sample consisted of 935 type 2 diabetic patients (mean age was 64.62 years). They observed albuminuria progression in 172 patients and worsened renal function in 41 patients. According to this retrospective observational cohort study, the presence of metabolic syndrome in patients with type 2 diabetes independently predicts the progression of DKD.
