Risk factors for surgical intervention of early medical abortion
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Mar 15, 2019
Meaidi A, et al. - Researchers undertook this nationwide cohort study of all pregnancies terminated before 63 gestational days in women aged 15–49 years during the period 2005–2015 to determine the risk factors for surgical intervention in these women undergoing. They analyzed 86,437 early medical abortions. Surgical intervention was required in 5320 (6.2%) within 8 weeks after induction. Observations suggest that the risk of surgical intervention of early medical abortion is significantly influenced by gestational age, maternal age, previous deliveries, and history of medically and surgically induced abortions. However, the inclusion of all quantified risk factors could not predict a large proportion of the interventions.
