Risk factors for suboptimal medication adherence in persons with multiple sclerosis: Development of an electronic health record-based explanatory model for disease-modifying therapy use
Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Jan 08, 2020
Gromisch ES, et al. - Experts conducted a cross-sectional cohort study using electronic health records in Veterans with multiple sclerosis (MS) (N = 2,939) who received care through the Veterans Health Administration (VA) and were included in the VA MS Center of Excellence Data Repository, in order to discover which factors were correlated with suboptimal disease-modifying therapy (DMT) adherence and to develop an explanatory model that could be utilized to recognize people at risk and potentially notify interventions. Approximately 31% of participants had suboptimal adherence. Results imply that suboptimal adherence to DMTs continues to be a concern. Thus, interventions that concentrate on person-level barriers shall be urgently looked for to raise adherence and enhance self-management abilities.
