Risk factors for post-traumatic epilepsy
Seizure - European Journal of Epilepsy May 16, 2021
Khalili H, Kashkooli NR, Niakan A, et al. - Researchers undertook this longitudinal analysis to determine the risk factors for post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE) in a large cohort comprising patients following severe non-penetrating civilian traumatic brain injury (TBI). This analysis involved 803 patients with severe non-penetrating TBI; 82 (10.2%) reported any late post-traumatic seizures. There was a significant inverse link of a higher Glasgow outcome scale (extended) at discharge with PTE. This work contributes to the literature on PTE risk post-severe non-penetrating civilian TBI. It may be indicated by large sample size and also the use of a logistic regression analysis model that there is definitely a link between other variables (e.g., depressed skull fracture and intracranial hematoma) and the Glasgow outcome scale (extended) at discharge and that is why they lost their significance in the model.
